During the football season last year, we kept an eye on the weekly USA TODAY re-rank piece published by Paul Myerberg. It may not be quite the season for every conference yet, but there are others playing and Meyerberg is at it again.
In the case of Ohio State, it has been missing in the major polls because the Buckeyes and their Big Ten brethren had been shelved for the fall amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that football is back in the heartland, it’s time to include OSU and its colleagues once again. The AP Poll was released without those teams this week, but they will be eligible again during the next release. The Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY had the Buckeyes back in at No. 10.
So where did Myerbeg decide to place Ohio State? You may or may not be surprised. He has decided to keep the Buckeyes at No. 2 where most everyone and their distant cousins had them to start the season. As no surprise, Clemson is still No. 1. The top ten behind the Buckeyes include Alabama (3), Georgia (4), Oklahoma (5), Penn State (6), Notre Dame (7), Florida (8), Central Florida (9), and Texas (10).
