It’s Thursday, September 17 and today’s play of the day comes from the 2016 Chickfila Kickoff Game in Atlanta, which featured No. 18 Georgia versus an unranked North Carolina squad, led by future Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky.
It was coach Kirby Smart’s first game at the helm for UGA and star running back Nick Chubb’s first game back from a serious knee injury.
Teams traded early touchdowns in the first quarter, which made it 7-7 as Georgia held the ball at the North Carolina 19 yard line facing a second down with six yards to go.

It was a great day on the ground for the Bulldogs. They would rush for 289 yards, with most of them coming from Chubb, who had one of the greatest returns from injury college football has ever seen. He totaled 32 carries for 222 yards with two touchdowns. And Georgia left Atlanta with a 33-24 victory, securing Smart’s first win as UGA head coach.
