Shaun Wade ‘undecided’ on potential return to Ohio State

Ohio State cornerback Shaun Wade told ESPN Wednesday that he is undecided on whether he will return to Ohio State.

Remember when Shaun Wade declared for the NFL draft because of all the confusion surrounding the Big Ten’s decision-making process on a fall season? You should, it was only two days ago.

Now, with the Big Ten officially announcing the return of fall football for the conference, there’s an opportunity perhaps for Wade to get back in action in Columbus rather than move ahead with preparing for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Generally, when a kid makes that kind of decision, it’s a pretty locked in event, but with the events of 2020 being so extraordinary and rare, and with Wade already deciding to put off dreams of NFL grandeur already last year, it’s likely far from a done deal.

Wade appeared on ESPN this afternoon to discuss the decision he now must make (if he still has a decision to make), and wasn’t ready to give anyone inside information. For starters, it was the guy’s birthday (imagine the irony), but this type of thing probably isn’t a quick conversation anyhow.

“Right now, I haven’t decided nothing, I just want to enjoy my birthday,” Wade said. “That’s all I want to do right now is enjoy my birthday, that’s all I want to do is enjoy my birthday. I haven’t really thought about it.”

Wade was then asked if he has hired an agent yet. When a player declares for the NFL Draft he can still pull it back unless he’s officially hired an agent, then there’s no turning back.

“I have an agent, but I haven’t signed nothing,” said Wade.

So, it sounds like the opportunity is there is Wade wants it, to come back to for one more season at Ohio State. We’ll see where this all leads and if he joins Wyatt Davis in making the leap to come back and be a part of the brotherhood for one more season.

Ryan Day has said that he 1,000 percent believes Wade should be able to play again if he so desires on a Zoom call with reporters on Wednesday, so it’s clear Ohio State would welcome him back with open arms.
