Texas head coach Tom Herman has added another weapon on the offensive side of the ball.
Earlier this week, Chip Brown of Horns247 hinted at the possibility that the Longhorns could target another graduate transfer. Those expectations became a reality on Friday.
Wide receiver Brenden Schooler is now the second graduate transfer at the position to join the Texas football program this offseason. He spent his freshman year at Oregon playing safety before moving to receiver.
Schooler adds depth and competition at the position after promising freshman receiver Troy Omeire went down with an ACL injury during fall camp. After suffering a foot injury in 2019, Schooler appeared in three games before choosing to enter the transfer portal.
He initially chose to continue his playing career at Arizona in December 2019, but due to the Pac-12 opting out of playing this fall season, Schooler flipped his decision and is now heading to Austin.
He clearly has the athleticism to compete for playing time immediately. In 2018, he was a first-team All-Pac-12 special teams player. Prior to switching to receiver, Schooler started 10 games at safety as a freshman.
Schooler caught 41 passes for 477 yards and four touchdowns while playing receiver for the Ducks.
