Spring football is in the conversation
It was only a matter of time before the next conference to drop football from the fall and that is the Mountain West joining the MAC in not playing college football this fall.
More news: Mountain West cancels fall football season because of COVID player health & safety concerns, sources told @Stadium. League will consider playing in spring. MW & MAC are 1st two FBS leagues opting not to play, bringing total to 26 FBS programs https://t.co/LPi7iX4tzA

“The health and safety of our student-athletes was paramount in our decision,” a source said via Brett McMurphy of Stadium.
This should not come as surprise or a shock as no college football in the fall has been on the table ever since COVID-19 hit the United States hard.
As the months went on from middle of March that shutdown all sports, there was a lingering thought this could last well into the calendar year and it did. Who knows if people adhered more to social distancing and mask-wearing that a season could have gone on. I’d give it a bit more of a chance but not much.
These are college athletes and not pros and that is a big difference. There is no way to bubble a college football team to make this work and it was inevitable that no college sports in the fall would happen.
Also, there was no real leadership in trying to find a way to have college football go on, it seemed like that it was let’s just wait out the virus from the higher-ups and hope for the best.
The Mountain West is now looking at playing some sort of football in the spring, per McMurphy. Who knows what that will look like and one thing for sure is that it will not look like a full-on college football season that we usually see in the fall.
For the record, not playing college football in the fall was
Air Force Football, Boise State Football, Colorado State Football, Fresno State Football, Hawaii Football, New Mexico Football, Nevada Football, San Diego State Football, San Jose State Football, UNLV Football, Utah State Football, Wyoming Football
the right choice.
