Maybe you’re one of those that’s still hiding in quarantine because of the coronavirus, and that’s okay. Even if you are and haven’t had too much interaction with humankind, you’ve no doubt heard that the 2020 college football season — and by extension — Ohio State football, is on life support this fall.
There are cloak and dagger meetings, sourced comments from commissioners and presidents who won’t go on record but who are knee-deep in the discussions ongoing about potentially canceling the season.
It’s all a little depressing but if it’s done with the health and safety in mind of college student-athletes, who can really argue with it.
But what about those players? We’ve seen many collegiate football players come out and voice their desire to play the season on Twitter with the hashtag #WeWantToPlay. And there’s been a lot of Ohio State players get behind it and implore leaders to give them a chance.
It feels like a coordinated effort because the numbers are somewhat staggering, but if it’s organic, that speaks even louder. Head coach Ryan Day has always encouraged a voice from his players, and that’s exactly what they’re using.
Here are some of those voices from Ohio State football players. They were all shared to Twitter on what we can only call a plea to those making decisions to let them play the 2020 season this fall.
There’s been too much work put in!! #WeWantToPlay

If people went through the hours on hours of physical, mental, and consistent hard work that us athletes go through you'd want to have a season. Let's have a season. #iwantaseason

Now, the big question is if anyone is listening. There are multiple reasons to cancel the season, but there are a lot of reasons to try and make it work too. Each day brings some more news on this, and as of now, the season is officially still on.
Maybe all of the voices ringing in concert across college football will make a difference. We’ll find out soon enough.
