Report: Mike Daniels expected to sign with the Bengals

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that former Detroit Lions defensive tackle Mike Daniels is expected to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that former Detroit Lions defensive tackle Mike Daniels is expected to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals, “if the visit goes as planned”.

Landing Daniels during last year’s training camp was considered one of general manager Bob Quinn’s shrewdest moves of his tenure. Daniels was motivated, excited to play for coach Matt Patricia, and a terrific scheme fit, but injuries derailed his time in Detroit. He finished the year with nine games played — many limited — 10 tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, and a single sack.

With the Lions moving on from defensive tackles Damon Harrison and A’Shawn Robinson, it made sense that the Lions would consider re-signing Daniels for stability and depth. Daniels also appeared open to returning for a second season and spoke very highly of the team in public.

But now, after reducing the roster to 80-players, the Lions appear to have moved on. Add in the Schefter report and all signs now indicate a reunion isn’t in the cards.
