Going into the 2020 football season, LonghornsWire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas roster.

Over the summer, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Tom Herman this season.

Today, we will be looking at junior safety Montrell Estell.

Montrell Estell, Safety

Height: 6-1 / Weight: 200

Class: Junior

Hometown: Hooks, Texas

High School: Hooks

HS ranking (247Sports): Four-star / No. 181 overall / No. 8 position / No. 24 in-state

HS ranking (Rivals): Four-star / No. 38 position / No. 49 in-state

Analysis: Coming out of high school, Montrell Estell was an athlete, playing both defensive back and wide receiver. Once arriving on campus, Todd Orlando made him a full-time defensive player, placing him at the safety position.

Estell started to get real playing time as a sophomore last season, appearing in all 13 games. He started against Oklahoma State and TCU, picking up an interception against the Cowboys. Estell added eight tackles (seven unassisted) in Stillwater, a career-high.

The safety position is a loaded one for the Longhorns, having Caden Sterns and B.J. Foster locking down the starting spots. When they are not of the field, Estell is as good as it gets in the rotation. Going into his junior season, Texas will continue to trust him more often,
