Going into the 2020 football season, LonghornsWire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas roster.
Over the summer, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Tom Herman this season.
Today, we will be looking at junior cornerback Kobe Boyce.
Kobe Boyce, Cornerback
Height: 6-1 / Weight: 175
Class: Junior
Hometown: Corinth, Texas
High School: Lake Dallas
HS ranking (247Sports): Three-star / No. 53 position / No. 64 in-state
HS ranking (Rivals): Three-star / No. 45 position / No. 74 in-state
Analysis: A starter at the beginning of last season, Kobe Boyce was a victim to the depth the Longhorns have at the defensive back position. While he did play in all 13 games, there were too many quality cornerbacks throughout the depth chart.
Despite not getting starts, Boyce still was a key contributor throughout the rotation. His five pass breakups were the most on the team in 2019. Much of the same will be expected of him going into his junior season.
Just as it was last season, Texas’ depth at cornerback is going to be deep. Even with Anthony Cook in the transfer portal, players such as D’Shawn Jamison, Jalen Green, Chris Adimora, and Kenyatta Watson will be competing for playing time. Boyce’s contributions when playing will be a key part of a secondary that needs improvement.
