Playmakers and leaders are typically what make up the most exciting players to watch in college football.
ESPN recently listed the most exciting players to watch for each Top 25 football program. While some are no-brainers, several came as a surprise choice. For example, quarterback Trevor Lawrence was no doubt the selection for Clemson.
Quarterback Sam Ehlinger is the face of Texas football. Shockingly, he wasn’t the choice. It’s odd considering Ehlinger is one of the top signal callers in the nation and plays with an unmatched competitive spirit. It’s undeniably exciting to witness him put the team on his back.
ESPN chose defensive back D’Shawn Jamison as the most exciting player to watch for the Longhorns. He’s certainly a versatile playmaker that has garnered increased hype heading into the 2020 season. Jamison is expected to be one of the most experienced leaders on defense under new coordinator Chris Ash.
“An all-conference candidate at corner, or as a kick or punt returner, junior Jamison is a threat anytime he’s around the ball. Jamison played wide receiver as a freshman, and it showed on his leaping one-handed interception against West Virginia last year, one of two picks he had that game. In 2018, he became only the third true freshman in Texas history to return a punt for a TD (90 yards).”
As a sophomore in 2019, Jamison appeared in all 13 games with nine starts. He compiled 35 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions, three pass breakups, forced one fumble and recovered one fumble.
Jamison was named a first-team All-Big 12 Preseason selection by Phil Steele in 2020, while also being selected a second-team punt returner and a third-team kick returner.
He’s all over the field and is more than deserving of the accolades that will continue to come his way.
