Joel Embiid is ready to show out as the NBA’s return inches closer

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is ready to prove himself as the NBA nears its July return

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is preparing to ball out as the NBA’s return nears.

Embiid spoke with Lauren Rosen of the Sixers’ team site, and he said he has been working out “about six times a week” for the past four weeks in readying himself for a potential return.

Now, with the NBA bringing 22 teams for its resumption in Orlando beginning July 31, Embiid has an opportunity to reap the benefits of his work.

“I have something to prove, and I feel like whenever that opportunity comes, it’s going to be my time,” Embiid said, per Rosen.

This season has been a bit of a down year for Embiid, but he had a solid February. According to NBA.com stats, Embiid scored 23.1 points per game during the month and shot 44.4% from the field, while also grabbing 10.0 rebounds per game.

He played one game in March, and he scored 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Philly defeated the Detroit Pistons. With the game taking place March 11, it was the Sixers’ final game before the shutdown.

With Embiid as the Sixers’ No. 1 option, he’ll need to have his best postseason yet for Philly to succeed. Embiid hasn’t performed too well in the playoffs so far in his career. He has career playoff averages of 20.7 points per game, 11.4 rebounds and a field goal percentage of 43.1%.
