As we continue through the offseason, Roll Tide Wire has decided to bring fans a quick snapshot of each scholarship player listed on Alabama’s 2020 football roster.
Each day, we’ll release two player profiles giving fans a glimpse into the players who will be available this upcoming season. Whether that’s size, classification, hometowns or recruiting rankings coming out of high school, we’ve got you covered.
Also included in each article is a quick recap letting you know what to expect from that player for the upcoming 2020 season and beyond.
Next up on the list is freshman offensive lineman Seth McLaughlin out of Buford (Ga.).
Seth McLaughlin, Offensive Lineman
Height: 6-4 / Weight: 278
Class: Freshman
Hometown: Buford (Ga.)
High School: Buford High School
HS ranking (247Sports): 3-star / No. 475 overall / No. 10 OC / No. 49 GA
HS ranking (Rivals): 3-star / N/A overall / No. 6 OC / No. 38 GA
Analysis: There were some similarities between Seth McLaughlin and former Alabama starting center Ryan Kelly when both prospects were coming out of high school. They were both a little lighter offensive line prospects who needed to add weight and strength early in their careers.
Like with Kelly, McLaughlin could be a player who could end up earning a starting job later in his career after spending a few seasons developing physically, but if he can do that, he could prove to be an effective option for the Crimson Tide.
Expect 2020 to be the start of that developmental process, but also don’t count McLaughlin out beyond that with Dickerson, Leatherwood and Brown all being seniors.
