Ohio State highly ranked in Pro Football Focus’ early top 25

Pro Football Focus (PFF) has released its way-too-early college football power rankings for 2020. It has Ohio State ranked extremely high.

Pro Football Focus released its very early college football top 25 power rankings, and it has a lot of faith in what Ohio State can do this fall.

That is, of course, no different than most other preseason lists and rankings because there’s plenty of reason to believe the Buckeyes should be a dominant force again. Despite losing some key members on defense, OSU returns Justin Fields at quarterback, a veteran and skilled offensive line, and some weapons on the outside that should make the offense a very dynamic one yet again.

Losing Chase Young and two first-rounders on the back end of the defense are big holes to fill, but potential first-rounder Shaun Wade returns, and there should be enough talent for a next man up mentality to shape another solid defense.

Here’s what Eric Eager of PFF says about the Buckeyes:

“After an impressive first year in Columbus, Justin Fields might be the best player in college football this season (he’s the favorite at +400 to win the Heisman).”

So where does PFF have Ohio State? Like many others, it has the Bucks at No. 2 behind Clemson, and just ahead of Alabama, LSU, and Georgia. Here is the complete top ten.

1. Clemson

2. Ohio State

3. Alabama

4. LSU

5. Georgia

6. Florida

7. Oklahoma

8. Notre Dame

9. Penn State

10. Auburn

Michigan is just outside the top ten at No. 11. Now, let’s hope the country is in shape with the COVID-19 pandemic to get this college football season off the ground.
