The powers who be in the NFL are considering a number of options to ensure the 2020 regular season could be played in one shape or form this year in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
One option is to schedule games on Saturdays if college football is canceled, according to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.
“With the NFL expected to release its schedule soon, its officials have discussed giving the league some flexibility to move games to Saturdays this fall if college football postpones its entire season, according to sources,” Marchand writes.
The NFL normally plays a slate of Saturday games late in the season when college football has wrapped up for the year.
The league is expected to announce some sort of schedule for the 2020 season by May 9. As of Wednesday, however, the NFL announced furloughs, pay cuts and pension contribution reductions for its employees.
Whether or not an actual season will truly come to fruition is still up in the air and at the mercy of the coronavirus.
