Trey Sermon appears in 247Sports top 25 college running backs of 2020

Ohio State running back Trey Sermon is listed as a top 25 college back heading into 2020 by 247Sports.

The competition has yet to even start at Ohio State, but there’s already one media outlet that believes Oklahoma transfer running back Trey Sermon is not only going to win the starting job over Master Teague, but that he’ll be one of the best backs in the country.

The popular college sports website 247Sports took a look at what it projects as the top 25 college running backs of 2020, and it has Sermon checking in at No. 21, just a spot behind Oklahoma’s own starting back that pushed ahead on the depth chart, Kennedy Brooks.

It’s interesting because as long as Teague comes back healthy for Ohio State, it’s no guarantee that Sermon pulls the starting gig. Of course, the coaching staff wouldn’t have worked so hard to lure Sermon to Columbus if it felt locked in with what was available.

There’s no doubt Sermon has the talent and experience to make the job his. We tend to agree that he’s likely the guy this fall, but we also believe there’s a good chance Teague has something to say about it.

Also, it’s interesting to note that the Big Ten is somewhat lacking on this list. Other than Sermon for Ohio State, the only other school to appear in the ranking is Penn State’s Journey Brown at No. 4.

Other than Brown, the other top-five backs include Rakeem Boyd or Arkansas (No. 5), Najee Harris of Alabama (No. 3), Travis Etienne of Clemson (No. 2), and Chuba Hubbard of Oklahoma State (No. 1).
