Taking a knee stances
The Buffalo Bills have been pretty silent on the issue of kneeling during the national anthem if and when there is a 2020 NFL season. But one person has taken their stance on the issue: Bills co-owner Kim Pegula.
She said this month that she does not plan to take a knee during the anthem whenever the upcoming season begins.
“Personally, I’m not going to kneel,” Pegula said. “But we’ve been listening. We’ve been learning to love other people and understand experiences and what they have gone through, what they’ve experienced, and what maybe the anthem or the flag means to them, it’s truly different than what I went through.”
Taking a knee during the anthem was a movement first brought to light by quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Attempting to bring light to racial injustices in the United States, Kaepernick did so during the anthem in 2016. Social reform is currently a hot-button topic in the country and peaceful protests have been ongoing for weeks since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Aside from Pegula, the Bills have been relatively mum in regards to whether or not knees will be taken in the fall.
Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott fell short of saying he plans to take a knee during the anthem when asked about it at his final virtual press conference of the offseason. However, McDermott did add that none of his players have indicated to him that they plan to kneel themselves.
