DT Tanzel Smart
Just before padded practices, the Bills added two defensive tackles, one of which was Tanzel Smart. Smart was drafted in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Rams, where he’s spent the past three seasons. In 31 games, he has 21 tackles and one pass defended. That little bit of experience he has could help him earn a depth spot. During the Bills’ scrimmage, he stood out as well and got in the face of Allen a few times. Syracuse.com reported at least five pressures from Smart against the first-team O-line. That’s impressive.
FB Patrick DiMarco
Patrick DiMarco is the first of a few guys in this boat. Unfortunately for him it’s not as much about performing well on the field as it is about actually getting on it. So far in camp, DiMarco’s had a neck issue keeping him sidelined. Rookie Reggie Gilliam has mostly had a quiet training camp. He did have a nice catch early on, but really the No. 1 thing giving him the edge? He’s out there. Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott will love DiMarco’s leadership side, but the best ability is always availability
