Door not closed on Avery Williamson

Linebacker Avery Williamson hasn’t exactly worked out for the Jets but the team is reported not completely closing the door on him just yet, per Jets Wire.

The Jets signed Williamson to a three-year, $22.5 million contract before the 2018 season. The team wanted to pair him with CJ Mosley last season, but Williamson was left in a preseason game late and tore his ACL last August. He missed the entire 2019 season. Mosley, who also signed with the Jets last offseason, missed 14 games himself.

Cutting Williamson would save the Jets around $6.5 million in cap space, but Williamson is reportedly going to get a chance to show he’s recovered from the ACL injury. If he’s back to being healthy, Williamson could be a viable option in the middle next to Mosley for the Bills to worry about. In 2018, Williamson compiled a career-high 120 combined tackles, three sacks, one interception, six pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
