New York Jets
Another Ficken battle won
The Bills found a winner for their placekicking battle in training camp last week. It was rookie Tyler Bass ousting veteran Stephen Hauschka. The Jets also found the answer to their kicking situation as well, but in their, the incumbent got the gig.
Brett Maher was released on Monday, which means Sam Ficken has won the kicking competition and will be the Jets’ kicker in 2020. Ficken was the Jets’ kicker for all but one game in 2019. He was 19-27 on field goal attempts last season. Ficken was strong from 20-39 yards out, only missing one field goal on 10 attempts. However, beyond 40 yards is where Ficken struggled.
Since releasing Nick Folk, the Jets have had a couple of kickers on a cycle who’ve all… left something to be desired. One of which was Kaare Vedvik, who missed multiple kicks on opening day against the Bills last season, was cut by Gang Green, made his way to the Bills this offseason… only to also be cut in their punting battle.
