Miami Dolphins
Gamble for Fins fails
In a surprise last week, the Dolphins waived rookie fifth-round pick Curtis Weaver. The Dolphins traded up to selection Weaver with the No. 164 overall pick at the 2020 NFL Draft, but that didn’t stop the team from rolling the dice to open up another roster spot. The Dolphins initially surrendered picks No. 173 and 227 overall to trade up for him.
But Miami waived Weaver with an injury designation, meaning if he cleared Waivers, he was going to go on their injured reserve list. But that plan backfired. Instead of clearing the waiver wire, the Browns picked up the pass rusher.
Once viewed as a potential Day 2 pick at the draft, Weaver being waived was a bit of a surprising move by Miami who was hoping they got a steal of a pick. But now the Dolphins will move on and the Browns will have their crack at seeing if there’s some potential in the Boise State product.
