8 takeaways from Bills GM Brandon Beane

Takeaways from Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane during 2020 training camp.

Josh Allen update

A few days prior, McDermott had quite the mention of Allen. He said that his development “keeps him up” at night, essentially. When Beane discussed Allen… it was a bit easier on the quarterback, also making mention that the “defense is ahead of the offense” because that’s how things usually go early in training camp.

“Josh is his own worst critic. You guys are at practice, you’re able to see the things he does well and the things that he knows he’s got to do better. I don’t worry about that… I think at the end of the day we’re evaluating everyone and Josh will be no different. We’ll see where he’s at,” Beane said. “He took a nice jump from Year 1 to Year 2… unfortunately for him and a lot of guys, Josh is still a young player, we didn’t have a legit offseason.”

This actually might be the first time the Bills gave Allen and the offense a little of the “altered offseason” excuse. Beane didn’t outright say it, but just worth noting. That’s not a knock on the Bills, either. It’s a true statement that the offseason changes due to coronavirus might stunt a player’s growth… or an entire offenses.

Everyone in the NFL is on that same playing field though, so once game day comes around, again, no excuses.
