8 takeaways from Bills GM Brandon Beane

Takeaways from Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane during 2020 training camp.

Extensions handed out

Well naturally Beane had nothing but positive things to say about recent extensions handed out by the club. Those two went to left tackle Dion Dawkins and head coach Sean McDermott. While discussing those two, of note, Beane made sure to point out that this is an example of the Bills wanting to keep the players they’ve drafted and groomed on their roster.

“Super happy for him and well earned,” Beane said. “We love to… we say draft, develop, and re-sign our own. This is proof in the pudding. A young man who came in here as a rookie, had what I thought was a pretty nice rookie year, year two, we talked about it, it was not as consistent as he would have like or we would have liked. I thought he came back in year three and was dialed in.”

And then on McDermott: “I think he’s checked all the boxes that a coach, three years in, that’s gone through a total re-build like we’ve had to do here.”

In regard to an extension of his own, Beane didn’t make mention of it. Most expect his will line up with the length of McDermott’s once it comes.
