That other first-round comparison
We compare Josh Allen and Sam Darnold. That’s fun. We love to do it. How about the other first-round comparison? That rookie one.
With the third-overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, the Jets took Quinnen Williams. The next defensive tackle off the board was Ed Oliver to the Bills at the No. 9 pick.
So how have their rookie seasons gone? Williams ranks as the 52nd best defensive tackle in the league, with a 69.1 overall grade via Pro Football Focus’ grading system. Oliver lands at No. 72 overall with a grade of 64.6.
In the hard numbers, Oliver has the edge. His five total sacks, 39 tackles and two passes defended in 15 games beats out Williams’ 2.5/ 28/ 1. Williams did miss a few games, though.
But like Allen-Darnold, we’ve got a long way to go in Oliver-Williams. comparisons.
