Don’t feat after opening drive

If there is one place the Jets do well, it’s on opening drives.

Per Jets Wire, the Jets have scored seven times on opening drives this season. The Jets have averaged 10.8 plays and 74.8 yards per opening drive. That’s very good. The Jets even scored on their opening drive last week against the Steelers, but the Jets averaged only 4.1 plays for 15.3 yards per drive through their next 12 possessions, which netted only nine points and one appearance in the red zone.

But as their dead last offense suggests, New York then goes into a shell. The first series of a game is usually scripted by a coaching staff, so Gase & Co. know what they’re doing there. Then evidently, they do not afterword. So if the Jets score on their opening drive, even potentially against Buffalo’s backups, no need to worry.

Also worth noting is the very poor run offense the Jets have. They’re the second-worst running attack in the NFL, averaging only 78.1 yards per game. They signed Le’Veon Bell to a massive contract this offseason.
