Sam Darnold update

It’s been a rocky road for the Jets in 2019 and it’s only gone from bad to worse for their offense. It’s a big slight against the head coach too, but overall, the Jets offense ranks dead last in the NFL, averaging only 273.1 yards per game. Gase was brought in to replace Todd Bowles, who was a defensive-minded head coach, and that’s gone pretty bad.

But anyway, onto Darnold, his numbers have still improved in Year 2, at least. His completion percentage is up to 61.7 percent from 57.7 and he’s only 40 yards away from surpassing his passing yards total from a year ago. In both seasons, he’ll have only played in 13 games. But, like the Bills with Josh Allen, from Year 1 to Year 2, many were hoping for big strides. Allen’s certainly seen better improvement, but a lot of the Jets’ struggles comes from the trenches. Their offensive line is very bad. Center Jonotthan Harrison ranks as the 37th best center in the NFL, while the injured Alex Lewis is the 55th best guard. At the other guard position is Conor McDermott, a former Bill who was inactive on game day just about his entire tenure with the team, even when Buffalo’s offensive line was brutal in 2018.
