6 burning questions heading into UFC on ESPN 7

The UFC hits our nation’s capital Saturday with a card that features several fights worth your time.

Does Alistair Overeem have another run left in him?

We should do a DNA check on Overeem in order to figure whether he’s part feline, because from an MMA perspective, this cat seems to have nine lives.

“The ‘Reem” got knocked out three times in a four-fight stretch early in his UFC career. Then he won four fights in a row and earned a shot at then-UFC champ Stipe Miocic. His first-round loss to Miocic kicked off another rough spot, this time getting finished three times in five fights.

By the time that stretch ended, culminating in a third-round loss to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 225, it really seemed like the end was near for Overeem, who will turn 40 in May.

Every time you count Overeem out, though, he bounces back. This time, he took fights in China and Russia and won them both in the opening round, most recently finishing Aleksi Oleynik via TKO at UFC St. Petersburg on April 20.

Now, Overeem’s got another up-and-comer looking to make his name at his expense, and he has the chance to show that rather than just be an inviting target on someone else’s resume, he’s still square in the heavyweight title picture.
