DE Jerry Hughes
Jerry Hughes is also a guy that’s surprisingly been outside of the Pro Bowl’s radar in his career. But could the year finally come for the longest-tenured Bills player? There’s reason in another Mario to think, yes, it could be.
Hughes’ best seasons as a pro came in his first two years with the Bills, in 2013 and 2014. Those were back-to-back 10-sack seasons. During that time, the name Mario sticks out because he played across from Mario Williams on the D-line back then. In 2020, the Bills will have Mario Addison across from Hughes. While maybe not Mario Williams, Mario Addison is a solid, productive player. He’s had at least nine sacks the past four-straight seasons. That should cause opposing defenses to have to choose: Hughes or Addison? Who do we try to stop? Good luck picking, but because of that, Hughes could finally earn those Pro Bowl honors.
Also worth mentioning: he was limited to only 4.5 sacks last season, but had some offseason surgeries to deal with some nagging injuries. He’ll be healthier next season. Hughes is a dang Iron Man, though. Despite bumps and bruises, he’s never missed a game in his Bills career. Ever… 112 straight.
