5 reasons why the Bills should avoid Cam Newton

Those are just a few of the places rumored to be Newton’s next destination, but Buffalo is surprisingly amongst those teams.

It doesn’t make sense financially

The QB market has been insane the last few years. Kirk Cousin’s helped it skyrocket a few years ago when he signed with the Vikings, and then there’s Nick Foles’ awful contract with the Jaguars. Franchises are throwing insane money at quarterbacks at the moment. Of course, and wisely so, quarterbacks aren’t settling for anything less.

In an offseason that is seeing Philip Rivers set to make $25 million a year with the Colts, Ryan Tannehill now earning around $21 million with the Titans, and Tom Brady soon to make $30 million a year with the Buccaneers, you can imagine the kind of money that Newton may ask for, and it just doesn’t make sense.

Using armchair expertise, anticipate an athlete like Cam to ask for somewhere between $14-20 million a season. Buffalo currently has around $22.5 million in cap space, and Newton would easily ask for more than half of that. Not necessary and spend it elsewhere.
