5 biggest what ifs from the 2019 season

Every week, Longhorns fans left leaving the game thinking “What if this went our way?” Here are the 5 biggest what-ifs from the 2019 season.

What if they played Texas A&M in the bowl game?

The Alamo Bowl was a great victory for the Longhorns, defeating Utah 38-10. With the Utes coming into the game ranked 11th, it was the second-biggest upset in the history of the bowl game.

Beating a good and highly ranked Utah will no doubt give Texas going into the season, but there was a lot of discussion before the bowl selection if the Longhorns should have even been in the Alamo Bowl.

Going 7-5, it was more than likely a stretch for Texas to be in the game. Usually, a Big 12 team with that kind of record plays in the Texas Bowl. It just so happened that former arch-rival Texas A&M was going to be playing in that game. What if the bowl selection committee and conferences let the two schools play each other?

Until the Longhorns and Aggies play in a game, there will be a constant comparison between the two schools. This year, it came in mutual matchups between LSU and Oklahoma State. Both teams lost to LSU and both teams beat Oklahoma State, but by different margins. Texas lost to the Tigers by seven and beat the Cowboys by six, while Texas A&M lost by 43 and won by three.

It would have been a good matchup between the two schools this year that would have put one fan base at ease and another one into misery. Soon enough, the Big 12 and SEC will have no option but to let them play against each other during bowl season. Hopefully, it is in a higher stakes game than the Texas Bowl.
