2. How does Matt Milano fit into the team’s long-term financial structure?
Milano has undoubtedly been the biggest steal in the 2017 Draft, far outplaying his fifth-round selection. He does everything well on defense: He can play in coverage, against the run, but he could add some sacks to his totals, but that’s the overly his biggest role.
Here’s the challenge for Buffalo: Milano has been so good that it will cost the team some serious money to retain his services.
Buffalo has several other players that will be due major contracts in the near future, including the aforementioned White, Josh Allen, and Dion Dawkins. The Bills have been very good at finding value players at other positions. However, they will need to determine to what end they are willing to spend on a player such as Milano.
It would be very disappointing if a deal were to fall through with the two sides. Milano is a linebacker that fits the modern NFL perfectly with his versatility. However, his time for negotiation may fall behind other pieces, which could create a bit of limbo for the current contractual situation.
