QB Jake Fromm

Jake Fromm has a long way to go. Not only does he have to improve from an off-field perspective after some bad headlines surrounding his name via some racially-charged text messages that surfaced, he has to win a job as well.

Josh Allen is the Bills’ starting quarterback, but this is a story about reserve players. Fromm, a rookie, has a golden chance to step in as the Bills’ No. 2 quarterback, but he has to earn it. Matt Barkley is the incumbent No.2 to Allen, and there’s Davis Webb to consider. But there’s reason to believe Fromm can become the second strong.

First, Barkley was brought in to be the “veteran” backup. Allen’s now started plenty of more games than Barkley in the NFL, so he’s really not even a vet No. 2 anymore, so the Bills could simply just get younger in this position group. In addition, Barkley’s been up-and-down in his NFL career. Bare minimum, Fromm is around on a rookie deal, a salary-friendly contract, for the next four seasons. If he showcases some decent ability this summer, he should be the No. 2 QB.

Additionally, Allen runs. Last season he didn’t miss a start. But he also didn’t exactly avoid contact, either. So QB2 could be a particularly important gig in western New York in 2020.
