Quarterback thoughts

After roster cuts were all said and done, the Bills kept four quarterbacks. Three, Josh Allen, Matt Barkley and Jake Fromm, stuck around on the active roster while Davis Webb is on the practice squad. Beane gave a bit more detail into why the Bills decided to do that, explaining that even if some think Fromm had a poor preseason, it’s too hard to give up on a guy during a COVID-19 offseason when… nothing was business as usual.

In terms of McDermott, he was specifically asked if maybe Webb would be a… “quarantined” quarterback. Per McDermott, he hadn’t made up his mind with that just yet.

“We discussed that. Nothing definitive right now. We’ll be managing that the best we can and try to remain smart,” McDermott said.

The leading candidate for that would be Webb, but previously Webb has been described as a bit of a quarterback coach type of guy in the Bills locker room, so keeping him around and “hands on” could be the preference here. If there’s a detection of coronavirus on Buffalo’s roster, it doesn’t sound like McDermott would sit around on his hands, though. Webb might be told to work from home for a couple of days just to be safe.
