Colt McCoy and Kevin Durant are two of the most beloved student-athletes to ever attend the University of Texas.
While McCoy had a much longer collegiate career of four years compared to Durant’s single season on the Forty Acres, the 2006 season that the two were wearing burnt orange at the same time was an exciting era for Texas sports.
McCoy still holds numerous school records for Texas and has had a long NFL career as a backup quarterback, while Durant has developed into one of the top basketball players in the world.
According to 247Sports, McCoy and Durant are one of the top five football-basketball duos in the NCAA since 2000.
“Fresh off another Olympics gold medal, the best basketball player in the world’s star has never shined brighter. Kevin Durant scored 21 of his team-high 29 points in the first half and hit several free throws in the final moments to preserve Team USA’s gold medal-game win over France.
At Texas, Durant was an unguardable assassin, averaging 25.8 points per game in his only season in 2006 as the national player of the year.
One of the most beloved players in Texas football lore, Colt McCoy holds a special place in the hearts of Longhorns fans. One of college football’s top quarterbacks to never win a Heisman, McCoy was a two-time first-team All-American and Walter Camp Award winner and saved the best moments of his career for his upperclassmen seasons. Over his career in Austin, McCoy finished with 112 touchdown passes and 20 scores on the ground, making him one of college football’s most lethal threats. Big 12 defenses found no answers for his wizardry offensively. Durant’s college career overlapped with McCoy, barely.” – Brad Crawford
Three of the top five were from the Big 12 conference. The other four football-basketball duos listed were Tim Tebow/Joakim Noah, Trae Young/Baker Mayfield, Greg Oden/Troy Smith, and Sam Bradford/Blake Griffin.
