2024 NFL mock draft: Bucs replace Carlton Davis III with 1st-round pick

See who the Tampa Bay Buccaneers land in this updated first-round projection for the 2024 NFL draft

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won big when they acquired a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft in a trade with the Detroit Lions, but they also created a hole in their starting lineup by sending away cornerback Carlton Davis III.

That hole is filled by the latest 2024 NFL mock draft from CBS Sports, which has the Bucs spending the No. 26 overall pick in the first round on Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry.

Here’s what CBS Sports’ Kyle Stackpole said about the selection:

The Buccaneers shipped Carlton Davis to the Lions, which made sense based on Davis’ price tag and Tampa’s previous moves (re-signing Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans). Kool-Aid McKinstry isn’t as highly touted as former Alabama teammate Terrion Arnold, but he has all the tools to develop into a consistent outside corner.

McKinstry does have the size and physical tools that the current Bucs regime have always coveted at the position, and his skill set would be a strong fit in Todd Bowles’ scheme.

Tampa Bay still needs multiple upgrades along the interior of the offensive line, but if they don’t like the value there, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them spend their top pick on a replacement for Davis.
