2023 Florida Football Position Preview: Running Backs

Montrell Johnson Jr. and Trevor Etienne have a chance to be one of the most potent 1-2 punches in all of college football this season.

Now that we know who will throw the ball for the Florida Gators in 2023, it’s time to move on to the ground game.

For the second-straight season, Montrell Johnson Jr. and Trevor Etienne are set to lead the Gators’ rushing attack, but now the duo is more physically mature and has experience against SEC defenders. Etienne is likely to take the bigger jump as a second-year player, but the workload should be split for most of the season.

Age also plays into the equation. Johnson is a draft prospect in the upcoming cycle, and Etienne will be a Gator for at least another year. Speaking of age, Billy Napier brought in a pair of veteran rushers to bolster the depth chart, and a freshman has a chance to break out.

Here’s a look at every running back on the 2023 Florida football roster.
