2022 John Deere Classic best value prop bets for 3 golfers

3 golfers to profit on at the 2022 John Deere Classic, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

The 2022 John Deere Classic tees off Thursday at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. Below, we tab the best value prop bets on a trio of golfers among the 2022 John Deere Classic odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.

Only 1 golfer in the top-50 of the Official World Golf Rankings will play the John Deere Classic. Many of golf’s big names opted to rest and prepare for overseas tourneys in July such as the upcoming Genesis Scottish Open and The Open Championship.

The John Deere Classic has a 156-golfer field with notables including last week’s Travelers Championship runner-up Sahith Theegala (No. 64 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) and 2021 John Deere Classic champion Lucas Glover (No. 83).

TPC Deere Run is a par 71 playing at 7,289 yards with a cut after 36 holes to the top 65 players with ties and there’s a $7.1 million prize pool.

Charles Howell III

There’s value in Howell at this price even though he has the 3rd-best odds to win the John Deere Classic because Howell ranks 2nd in my mixed stats model provided by FantasyNational.com.

Howell is in the top-10 in this field over the last 36 rounds for SG: Ball-striking (8th), Tee-to-green (1st), Par 4s (8th) and birdies or better gained (4th), according to FantasyNational.com.

Also, this should be a birdie-fest since the average winning score over the past 6 John Deere Classics is 21-under and the average cut line is roughly 3-under.

Howell is 6th in strokes gained (SG) in this field at courses with easy scoring conditions with a T6 finish and a T19 finish in 2 of his last 3 John Deere Classic tourneys.

  • $12.50 for winner (+3000) to earn a $375 profit
  • $12.50 for top-5 finish (+750) to earn a $93.75 profit
  • $25 for top-10 finish (+380) to earn a $95 profit
  • $100 for top-20 finish (+180) to earn a $180 profit

Adam Schenk

Schenk finished T4 at this event in 2021 and T6 in 2019 (2020 John Deere Classic was canceled due to COVID-19) and Schenk has the 2nd-best SG vs. expectations in the field at this course, per DataGolf.com.

We could be getting a good price for Schenk since he missed the cut at last week’s Travelers Championship. That was a stacked field and Schenk gained strokes in 4 of the 5 major categories but dropped more than 3 strokes on the greens.

Putting is the stat with the highest variance in golf. But, Schenk knows his way around this course so, if he gets hot with the putter, Schenk will be in the mix Sunday to win this.

Finally, Schenk finished 24th at the U.S. Open and 26th at the Memorial, both of which were played on much tougher courses than TPC Deere Run.

  • $12.50 for winner (+6000) to earn a $750 profit
  • $25 for top-10 finish (+550) to earn a $137.50 profit
  • $100 for top-20 finish (+250) to earn a $250 profit

More John Deere Classic coverage:

Vaughn Taylor

This is strictly a value-play since Taylor ranks 2nd in my custom stat model now that Davis Riley withdrew from this tourney.

SG: Approach (APP) is the most important stat to look at when handicapping golf and that’s especially the case at TPC Deere Run. Taylor is 2nd in SG: APP in this field over the last 36 rounds, 3rd in opportunities gained, 2nd in Proximity to the hole and 8th in 3-putt avoidance.

Lastly, Taylor is 16th in this field for SG at TPC Deere Run with top-20 finishes in 2 of the last 4 John Deere Classics (T6 in 2019 and T19 in 2017) and has a plus-0.72 SG vs. expectations at this event.

  • $10 for winner (+20000) to earn a $2,000 profit
  • $50 for top-20 finish (+480) to earn a $240 profit
