Daniel Jeremiah, regarded as one of the top NFL Draft analysts around, sees the Buffalo Bills addressing the edge at the upcoming 2021 event.
Earlier this week, Jeremiah released his third mock draft of the offseason and Joe Tryon is the selection. Not exactly a widely-known product, there’s a reason for that.
Like in the NFL in 2020, college players had the option to opt out of playing due to COVID-19. Tryon, a Washington product, was one of those.
Because of that, could the Bills land a sleeper at No. 30 overall?
First, here’s Jeremiah’s breakdown:
I could see Buffalo addressing the linebacker position, but finding another edge rusher to complement Jerry Hughes is a bigger priority.
The linebacker position is a questionable thought considering the Bills have long locked up Matt Milano and the team runs a nickel-based defense. That means there’s two linebackers on the field most teams in Sean McDermott’s scheme, and we also have Tremaine Edmunds in Buffalo.
We’re not entirely sure where a third would fit, unless it was a versatile box-safety or nickel defender type.
But in the end, edge is a much more realistic pick. Not only Hughes, but Mario Addison isn’t getting any younger, either. If Buffalo drafts a defensive end to add to their rotation, a player such as Tryon could be groomed to be long-term answer at the position along with AJ Epenesa.
According to The Draft Network, Tryon is a player that is a versatile guy that can play in a 3-4 defense or 4-3 one like the Bills run.
