With the second pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins have selected Chase Young, defensive end, Ohio State.
That’s what Roger Goodell rattled off the next pick after the Cincinnati Bengals’ nabbed Joe Burrow first overall. Young was the draft’s best pass rusher and showed it all season at Ohio State. He was arguably the best defender in all of college football.
Young will have an instant impact as he’s headed to team up with former teammates Terry McLaurin and Dwayne Haskins. Having played high school football just a short drive from DC, Young is already familiar with the area.
Young is a freakish athlete.
He has the length, power, and size to bully the man he lines up across from, but is also quick enough to beat almost any offensive tackle off the edge. He’s not just gifted with athletic talents though, he has worked hard with his technique to get around and through his man.

It’s part of the reason why he led the country this year with 16.5 sacks, a single-season Ohio State program record. It’s also the reason why the Atlanta Falcons were in a reportedly “aggressive” pursuit of him.
But that doesn’t matter now.
Without any real weaknesses, the dominant 6-foot, 5-inch edge rusher should solidfying a Redskins’ line that ranked tenth in sacks a season ago.
Just the ninth defensive player to be dubbed a finalist for the Heisman trophy, Young has continued to blossom as he’s transitioned through the elite Ohio State program.
That said, this was a great move for Washington as they will expect big things from Young immediately upon arrival. He himself will likely expect the same.
