Will the Rams have another player drafted?

The first team All-Mountain West safety represents the Colorado State Rams best chance at getting a player drafted in this years NFL draft. The question is whether or not that happens.

There isn’t much chatter about any of the Rams, but a number of pro scouts did show up for the Rams pro day. One of the few pro days to be held before the suspension of them. Hicks showed he had average to above average skills in the pro day drills, but he felt he could’ve done better according to the Fort Collins Coloradoan.

Strengths

Hicks is a rangy, playmaking safety who isn’t afraid to get involved in the running game. In 2019, he was the second leading tackler in the Mountain West with 117 total tackles. He also finished with one and a half sack, which shows his willingness to do what is asked of him.

Hicks shows good pre-snap read coverage. Where he uses his vision and recognition to make a quick decision and gets an early jump on a decent number of players.

His high tackle number can be attributed to his ability to break down in the open field and make the 1-on-1 tackle.

Weakness

As you can see on the RAS card above, Jamal Hicks is not the most agile safety, which is why he thrives when the ball is in front of him or he is allowed to play in space.

When Hicks is asked to match up man on man, he struggles. He often gets beaten to the route when he is in a man-on-man situation. Hicks often gets beat deep when pressed into a man situation.

Draft Prediction

Absolutely no one, besides Mountain West Wire, is talking about the possibility of Hicks getting drafted. But his ability to play the field and play the running game should get him at least an invite to camp.
