2020 NFL Draft: PFF mock sends Bills help in both sides of trenches

With their second-round pick at No. 54 overall, the Bills pluck defensive end Josh Uche from Michigan off the board. With Buffalo’s next pick at No. 86 in the third round, offensive lineman Damien Lewis is selected by the Bills.

Pro Football Focus‘ latest three-round mock draft has the Buffalo Bills getting down and dirty with their first two picks, selecting a player in both the offensive line and defensive line.

With their second-round pick at No. 54 overall, the Bills pluck defensive end Josh Uche from Michigan off the board. With Buffalo’s next pick at No. 86 in the third round, offensive lineman Damien Lewis is selected by the Bills.

Both players are realistic considering the Bills have reportedly met with both during the pre-draft process.

In Uche, the Bills would get a versatile player that can play both with his hand in the dirt and off the ball. In Buffalo, he’d likely see most of his time at defensive tackle. The 6-foot-2 edge defender is a bit undersized for the position, but he’d have time to grow into his frame, given the Bills having Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison at the position for 2020.

In 12 games last season, Uche had 7.6 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss for the Wolverines. He also forced a fumble and had a pass defended with 33 total tackles.

Draft analysts see a better run blocker in the 6-foot-2, 327-pound Lewis than pass blocker, but in a situation with the Bills, he could be given time to develop as well. Buffalo is returning their entire starting offensive line next season. Some mock drafts do see Lewis as a Day 3 selection, though. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein predicts that Lewis “should outperform his draft slotting.”
