The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wrapped up the 2019 regular season today with a 28-22 overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons, with the game ending in typical Bucs fashion: a Jameis Winston pick-six.
Winston became the eighth quarterback in NFL history to pass for over 5,000 yards in a season, which is an accomplishment in and of itself. However, he also became the first quarterback ever to finish the season with 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. On the year, Winston finished with 5,109 yards, 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
Tampa Bay will miss the playoffs for the 12th-straight season as they finish 7-9 on the year. They now hold the 14th pick in the 2020 NFL draft, a far cry from the fifth pick they held in this year’s draft.
Several mock drafts have the Bucs looking to continue their defensive upgrade, perhaps even looking to get younger at defensive tackle with Javon Kinlaw out of South Carolina.
There will be plenty of time between now and April’s draft for Tampa Bay to decide what route to take. But, given Winston’s tumultuous season, you can’t rule out the possibility of drafting a quarterback, if one should fall to them at that spot.
