Elevator Pitch

Brooks was a highly productive linebacker for the Red Raiders over his time in Lubbock. Finished top three in tackles each year, his sophomore season was the only time he did’t lead the team in tackles. Posted 108 tackles as a senior, missing the final game against Texas. Most tackles by a linebacker for Tech since 2015 (Micah Awe).

Strengths

The name of the game for a linebacker is tackling, and it is something that Brooks does extremely well. He finished his senior campaign with 20 tackles for loss. Not a guy who misses tackles by attacking with his shoulder. Brooks attacks his target and wraps up to ensure he gets his man. He goes into attack mode when reading the flow of the offense, his ability to diagnose and close on a ball carrier will serve him well in the NFL. High football IQ.

Brooks is definitely a guy who can run sideline to sideline. Shows good speed (4.54 at combine), and short area quickness. Change of direction poses no issue for him in small spaces. He also can avoid blockers to get into position to disrupt an offense.

Good NFL build at 240 pounds, he should only get better once he works in a NFL strength program. Great motor and the resolve to never give up on a play with backside pursuit.

Weaknesses

Even with his size, Brooks will struggle with getting off blocks. Really struggles with lineman who latch onto him with no ability to shed. Defensive lines will need to keep him clean and allow him to slash into the backfield and blow up the play.

His coverage ability will need work at the next level. While he can handle dealing with running backs in the flats, coverage downfield will be an issue. He will need to work on this aspect of his game if he wants to play every down as an off the ball linebacker.
