13. San Francisco 49ers (via IND) – CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma
Previous pick: CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma
Analysis: Former South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel was drafted near the top of the second of the 2019 NFL Draft to become a No. 1 or 2 option in San Fransisco’s passing game. He combined with tight end George Kittle to be just that.
So, why the need for CeeDee Lamb here? Well, the short answer is Jimmy Garoppolo needs all the help he can get. He’s a capable quarterback, but anyone with that trio of options — not to mention Kendrick Bourne, Trent Taylor and more — should find a ton of success.
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville
Previous pick: Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia
Analysis: It’s possible that Mekhi Becton’s flagged drug test at the combine could hurt his draft stock, but I still don’t see a scenario where he falls past the Buccaneers at No. 14 overall.
With Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski now in Tampa Bay with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and head coach Bruce Arians, the offense has a chance to be one of the best in the NFC. What they’re still lacking is a starting right tackle, however.
Becton is more than capable of filling that void.
15. New York Jets (TRADE – via DEN) – K’Lavon Chaisson, EDGE, LSU
Previous pick: Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville
Analysis: The New York Jets are going to look at more help along offensive line, and had they stayed put at No. 11, they would’ve had still the option to draft Mekhi Becton. The flagged drug test added enough concerns for a trade down, however.
After missing out on the massive tackle out of Louisville, the team decides to pivot to the defensive side of the football before worrying about the offensive in Round 2.
K’Lavon Chaisson, in addition to healthy, more experienced Quinnen Williams, will add a much-needed element to New York’s pass rush that has been lacking for quite while.
