2020 NFL draft: Bills history when drafting 22nd overall

Buffalo Bills have drafted in the 22nd spot twice in their history.

The Buffalo Bills earned the 22nd pick in this year’s draft. That’s their first of nine picks and only one in the first round.

Buffalo has drafted in the 22nd spot twice in their history. The first time occurred in 1967 when the Bills selected defensive back John Pitts from Arizona State. Pitts started 52 out of 87 games in Buffalo, registering eight interceptions.

The second occurrence sticks out a bit more clearly (or it may be hazy, depending on your interpretation of the player’s production) in Buffalo’s draft memories, as the Bills chose quarterback J.P. Losman from Tulane. Losman was the fourth quarterback selected in the first round of the 2014 draft. Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, and Ben Roethlisberger were selected earlier in the round.

During five seasons in a Buffalo uniform, Losman started 33 games, threw 33 touchdowns, 34 interceptions, and completed 59.3-percent of his passes.

In 2018, the Bills held the 22nd pick. This was originally Kansas City’s pick, but Buffalo acquired this selection in the 2017 trade with the Chiefs.  Buffalo used this selection in a trade to move up and select linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.
