One of the conference’s biggest X-factors.

The Hawaii Warriors won the West division on the strength of its high-scoring run-and-shoot offense and its depth, both of which were on display whenever our next entry on the countdown of the Mountain West’s top players took the field.

Chevan Cordeiro was pretty readily the heir apparent from the moment that former head coach Nick Rolovich recruited him from in-state high school powerhouse Saint Louis, but that didn’t stop him from seeing the field in four games back in 2018 and in 12 more last fall. He’s only made four career starts but he’s won them all, most notably a wild November win over San Jose State in which neither team needed to punt, and he’s also provided heroics while coming off the bench. It was Cordeiro, after all, who engineered what would turn out to be the game-winning drive against San Diego State that clinched the division.

Now that Cole McDonald has moved on to the NFL, Cordeiro will enter 2020 as Hawaii’s unquestioned starter, sporting a career 58.6% completion rate, 7.6 yards per career attempt, and 14 passing touchdowns against just five interceptions. If you’re looking for a reason to stay up late on Saturday nights this fall, don’t look any further.
