Jason Garrett had just assumed the headset after the midseason firing of Wade Phillips. The team didn’t necessarily put on a lights-out performance, but the lights in New Meadowlands Stadium did go completely dark at one point, causing a 15-minute delay in the third quarter.
In his third start since taking over for an injured Tony Romo, quarterback Jon Kitna passed for 327 yards and three touchdowns, including one to rookie Dez Bryant. Garrett’s first game as coach was also his first win as the 1-7 Cowboys upset the 6-2 Giants.[lawrence-newsletter]
