On Frank Gore’s carries during Wild Card over Devin Singletary…

The Bills had one running back that played well against the Texans, rookie Devin Singletary. Still, Frank Gore got eight carries to Singletary’s 13. Gore rushed for 22 yards, which inlcuded a long of 14 yards on one of his yards. He was mostly ineffective as he had been down the stretch run of the season. Still, the Bills kept going to him. So, why?

McDermott was asked that and in his answer, and kind of gave a hint on things moving forward. Even if Gore did retire following the season, he’s a big believer in a two-back system.

“That’s just the way that the game and the play-calling trended at that point. I know this, it’s not good to have one back carry the ball every time, right? You like to have two backs that work together,” McDermott said “Doesn’t mean that it works out exactly the way you want it to work out. At the end of the day, we didn’t win the game, and that’s responsibility.”
