No. 2 Iowa Breaks Minnesota and PJ Fleck’s Oar
The new heartthrob of college football PJ Fleck and his 9-0 Minnesota Golden Gophers went to Iowa City to take on No. 23 and previously 6-3 Iowa on Saturday.
The Hawkeyes were prepared like they pretty-much always are under Kirk Ferentz, jumping to a 20-3 halftime lead over the previously-unbeaten Gophers.
Minnesota rallied, getting within four late and having the ball with 1:35 left but Iowa’s outstanding defensive line rose to the occasion when they needed to the most, twice sacking Tanner Morgan before knocking him out of the game and then forcing backup Cole Kramer to hurry off a pass before being intercepted on a desperation, fourth down heave.
The win means the Hawkeyes move to 5-1 at home versus AP top-seven teams since 2008 and keep possession of one of the finest rivalry trophies in the game.

The loss sends Minnesota to 9-1 with Northwestern and Wisconsin remaining. The Gophers now must likely win out in order to earn an unlikely trip to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship.
