Background: The Olympic bronze medalist is often criticized for what many perceive to be crude boxing skills. Well, he certainly boxes well enough to set up arguably the biggest right hand in the history of the sport. Power. That’s what Wilder is and always will be about. And on one level that’s surprising. He weighs only around 220 pounds when he fights, which is slight for his height. His spindly legs, which hold up a chiseled upper body, might explain that. At any rate, he is able to get all 220 pounds behind his remarkably quick (for such a tall man), accurate signature punch. Dominic Breazeale and Luis Ortiz could tell you all about that. Is Wilder a great technician? No. That power and his ability to use it effectively makes him a winner, though. That’s what counts most in the end. He’ll enter the International Hall of Fame after he retires.
