Zion Williamson shared a moment with a fan with myotonic dystrophy

The No. 1 overall pick stopped to sign an autograph for a fan diagnosed with myotonic dystrophy, a long-term genetic disorder.

Sometimes, it is truly bigger than the game of basketball.

A video posted by Colton Rhoads on Instagram showed Zion Williamson stopping to talk and sign an autograph for a fan with myotonic dystrophy, a long-term genetic disorder that affects muscle function.

Williamson was seen for about 30 seconds talking to the fan and her family in Memphis as the New Orleans Pelicans prepare to play the Grizzlies on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The matchup between the two teams is the 18th consecutive season the Grizzlies have hosted a game on MLK Day as the NBA recognizes Memphis for the city’s role in civil rights history.

Of course, Williamson has not played this season after undergoing knee surgery on Oct. 21. He will make his official NBA debut on Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs, a contest that will be televised by ESPN.

Although Williamson is still awaiting his NBA debut, the rookie has often taken time to meet with fans and sign autographs this season with the Pelicans.
